Killington, Vt Ski Trip - Day 4

Last day of the trip produced great views, funny stories, one great video
A couple of crashes ended the day on a week long of fun

This was the view we were blessed with late in the day today coming down one of Killington's black diamonds on the K-1 side of the mountain.  Visibility went on for miles and the sky was magical.  It was surreal to ski down all day long.

Today was a great day of skiing.  All the runs that were getting blown with snow were perfect and the crews changed the guns to other runs which only allowed for better skiing on the new runs.  Some great photos came of today highlighted (in my opinion at least) above as the sky was changing colors all day.  During another five hours of skiing I was able to snag a great wreck by Bob on video, along with a few other videos too.  Check them out below the pictures.

Bob and I were able to sneak through a closed path and we found some very nice man made powder by following tracks made by skiers and borders earlier in the day out by the Stash (a natural terrain park that was closed for the week).  The views today though were spectacular.  We stopped many times just to rest and take in the site before us.  The legs were getting a bit sore after three days on the slopes, but Bob and I found some nice moguls down the black diamond Superstar and down the Double Black down the gondola.  To say the least we are going to sleep good tonight.  We almost found a run through the glades too, but a thin covering of snow and rocks forbid us from going any further.  I noticed a nice cut on the top of my skis today too which must have resulted from hitting a rock or a root, but that is just how it goes.  Check out the pictures that resulted from today, Some of them tuned out okay, including a few panorama shots that I was happy about.

The smell from these little waffle cabins all across the mountain tormented us.  The smell was incredible and we had to resist the urge to spend $5.00 on a waffle, but it may have been worth it.

Here is a photo of the K-1 gondola up the front side of the mountain.  It is an 8 minute ride exactly from top to bottom.

The K-1 lodge at the base of the mountain.  There are four lodges throughout the mountain and a few other smaller warming huts as well.

Pakos (right) and his brother Blake at the bottom of the hill waiting for the rest of the crew to catch up.

This shot could have turned out better as there are black lines that cut it into thirds, but it shows the view that we were able to see every time down the mountain.  It was incredible.

Bob with an amazing backdrop.

A view of the valley.  You could see all the way to the horizon today.

There were two ways to get to the slopes from our condo.  Either take a shuttle (which Bob was opposed to for some reason) or take the quarter mile hike to the nearest lift.  The walk included spectacular views such as this one though.

One of the coolest thing that we saw today was this heated pool outside the Grand Hotel.  There were two hot tubs on either side and you swam out from the inside to get to the outside.  The pool was about 90 degrees.

The crews were carving out the half pipe for the Dew Tour that stops by Killington every year from January 19-22.  The tour usually makes three stops a season.  This year starts in Breckinridge, CO, goes on to Killington, and ends in Sun Valley, Utah.  Killington is the only resort that hosts in the East, and to be honest, probably the only resort that could host it as well.

The last three are some great views from the top just below the main lift.

These were all the views of the back side of what the mountain presents on the way down Great Eastern after getting off the K-1 lift.  The red sky was a bonus way to end the entire week.

This is a very funny video of Bob eating snow on the last run of the day.  Feel free to watch it more than once.

This is a very embarrassing video of me attempting to clear a very short jump.  Feel free to make fun of me.  Bob does a much better job of the two jumps than me (see below).

Take notes, this is the way to hit a jump, not the effort that you saw me put in above.
